‘Prisma Sonoro’ LP
9 track LP
Undoubtedly one of the central figures of Italian film music, Alessandro Alessandroni defined the very essence of the Italian soundtrack sound of the 1960s/70s. With his vocal group, ‘I Cantori Moderni’ as well as his pioneering fuzzed reverb guitar sonorities, sitar explorations and phenomenal whistling techniques he is perhaps best known for his contribution in shaping the famous ‘Spaghetti Western’ sound in films such as “Once Upon A Time In The West”.
Recording countless sessions for many Italian film composers of the period (such as Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani, Francesco De Masi etc.) his importance as a sideman often outweighs his own work as a solo artist. Alessandroni was however an amazingly inventive composer in his own right, with his unique compositions being issued on many Italian, French, German and English Library labels during the 1970s as well as attached to a number of notable ‘exploitation’ films (“Lady Frankenstein” and “The Devil’s Nightmare” for example).
One of the most desired sessions (and reported to be his own favourite recording) is “Prisma Sonoro”, a mythical library LP issued in 1972 as a micro press on the highly collectable ‘Sermi’ label. Exquisitely crafted Italian mood music. Enchanting Spinet-propelled bossa infected with a mild lysergic delirium. Brimming optimism measured against scowling Giallo-guitars, mournful string and brass arrangements, as well as the sublimely plaintive voice of the legendary Edda Dell’Orso.
Long regarded as the backbone of the Italian OST sound, here is Maestro Alessandroni in all his own lush psychedelic glory.
